One of the highlight’s of this year’s Chorlton Arts Festival was a performance from Ren Harvieu & Romeo Stodart (of the Magic Numbers). It was an incredible gig, full of warmth and intimacy, and well deserving of the rapturous standing ovation it received at it’s close. Part of Manchester’s 2016 Future Everything Festival, Smoke Signals is a mixed media art installation by Ed Carter and David Cranmer. The installation, which converts digital data into a audio-visual sculptures using smoke cannons and sub-sonic frequencies, was housed at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation and Future Everything also commissioned three musicians to each create a special one-off performances alongside the artwork. One of the three commissioned artists, Sara Lowes, asked me along to document her performance and the installation also gave us the opportunity for a unique portrait shoot. I Live Hip Hop was a special, secret event put on by Brighter Sound and Reebok at Manchester’s Wonder Inn. It was a series of creative workshops for 15-25 year old aspiring MCs, producers, DJs and vocalists assisted by some incredible professional artists including DJ Woody, Visceral, G-Kut, Jo Mo, 8 Gold Rings, Elizabeth Vince, Mul and Persia. The talent of the mentors and the participants was mind-blowing. It was a real privilege to watch them work and perform.
To top it all off, at the end of the day there was a surprise appearance from multi Grammy award-winning Hip Hop legend, Kendrick Lamar.

Last week I had the pleasure of working with Brighter Sound, an organisation that produces creative music projects and events in Manchester. The project was ‘Young Musicians Week’, an opportunity for young people to work with some amazing musicians and artists including Richard Jupp (Elbow), Natalie McCool, Jenna G, InnaVoice and Burgaboy. You can see some of my favourite shots from the week below.
Brighter Sound also organised the Beth Orton residency last year (also featuring Natalie McCool) which culminated in a beautiful group performance at the end of a week of collaboration and songwriting – you can see my photos of their one-night-only gig here.
I headed on down to Rebellion on Saturday night to shoot my friend’s band, Barbarian Hermit, who were playing a set as part of the Manchester Metal Collective Weekender. It was such a bonkers night and awesome fun. Here are some of my favourite shots from the night.

I had a lot of fun in 2015 and took a LOT of pictures. I got to meet and work with a bunch of incredibly lovely people over the past 12 months and I was also lucky enough to photograph some truly beautiful locations and wildlife along the way. It’s been hard to whittle them down, but here’s a small selection of my favourite shots from last year for your viewing pleasure.

A few weeks ago I was asked to photograph The Vernon Sisters – a trio of hugely talented real life sisters who perform classic songs at events across the UK. This event was at Liverpool’s impressive Rum Warehouse, on the dockside, and included a full backing band and a troupe of dancers. Before the show we were able to squeeze in a quick portrait shoot and, despite being short on time, we ended up with some great shots before their curtain call! A selection of my favourite images from both the portrait shoot and their performance are below.
